I would like to take this opportunity to request a SMALL donation towards
a short term fundraising campaign to raise money for support of
those suffering from cancer and cancer related treatment.
This effort is being done by members of the Guelph Police Service
who have pledged to have their heads shaved in efforts to raise
money and show support for those who are currently and have suffered
from cancer. At present we have two members of our service
who are
receiving treatment for cancer.
I know we all have been touched personally in some way or another
by this disease, myself included, having lost both my Mother and
Mother in Law as well my Father in Law is still struggling
with the
affects of having had surgery last fall.
I have committed to shaving my head in support of this worthy cause
and am asking for your support and a small donation. We have
had a commitment from Chief Rob Davis that if we raise at least
$10,000, he will also shave his head in support of this cause.
Additionally I am anticipating support from the staff and students
at the two High Schools I work, to assist in fund raising.
There is a proposed challenge on the table between the two schools
to see how much they can raise for this event. I am planning to
shave one half of head at St. James and the other half at John F.
Ross. The rest of the officers, some of which are females
will be having their heads shaved at Stone
Road Mall on Saturday May 10th 2008 at approx 4pm.
If this is something you feel called to support than please
email us at stjameschs@gmail.com
with the amount you wish to pledge along with the best way to contact
you personally. Tax receipts are
available but as of yet I am not aware of what if any minimum
donation is required to obtain same.
I on behalf of local cancer patients and survivors as well as the
local chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society, the members of the
Guelph Police Service and Cops for Cancer, appreciate any consideration
at all that you give to this request for your support. Cheques can
be made out to the Canadian Cancer Society and dropped off to Franca
Ferraro in the Guidance Office at St. James CHS. Receipts from the
Cancer Society will be given for donations.
I know we are called to dig into our pockets almost at every corner,
so support of any description will be considered a blessing.
Thank you from, soon to be bald,
Kevin
